Nerikomi Sandy Brown with Rainbow Squiggles Ceramic Vase by Fizzy Ceramics
About the Item
Handmade nerikomi vase with multiple colored clays. Black-brown speckled clay with colorful marbled squiggles integral to the vase. Made and fired in Los Angeles by Fizzy Ceramics in 2022. Glazed clear on the outside and inside, the black clay turns brown with the clear glaze, compare photo of bottom. Fired to cone 5 in oxidation, each piece is watertight and is designed to be used as a vase for fresh flowers.
Each vase is formed by putting a slab of alternating clays together before forming into a cylinder and sculpting to the finished shape. Before each firing stage, the clay is cleaned and smudges are sanded and polished away to create sharpness and definition between alternating clays. Many vases crack at some point during the process so each surviving vase is very special.
