Nils Landberg Glass Vase for Orrefors

About the Item

Beautiful smokey grey glass vase by Nils Landberg for Orrefors, Sweden. 1950s - 1960s. Numbered (391P) and signed. Orrefors (1898-2012) was one of Sweden’s, and partly the whole world’s, leading glasbruk (glasswork) company. In 1913, Orrefors started to produce drinking glasses, vases and other house-ware items. The owner, Ekman, hired Heinrich Wollman, who originated from Bohemia, which had a long tradition in glass-making. They started to make the first attempts at modern art glass, often used as interior design objects, such as a wide range of modern crystal vases. Their designs use characteristic clean lines of brilliant crystal that suggests a frozen liquid. Their modern take on glass art and interior design objects was greatly admired when it was displayed to a wide audience at the Paris Exhibition of 1925. Some of the most well-known modern Scandinavian designers and artist were Olle Alberius, Göran Wärff, Vicke Lindstrand, Rolf Nilsson, Nils Landberg and Ingeborg Lundin during the 1960s and 70s.
