"Nude Male with Harp", Quintessential Art Deco Engraved Glass Vase by Lindstrand

About

An especially rare example of Vicke Lindstrand's characterisitically elegant, stylized nude figures for the Orrefors glass company in Sweden, this piece features an engraved nude male figure playing a large harp. The figure, almost Mannerist in his lean, elongated form, is fully nude. This piece is a pristine example of the extraordinary engraved glass perfected by Orrefors in the 1930s, designed by the company's leading designer just before he moved to the Uppsala-Ekeby firm in 1940. As Alistair Duncan points out in his definitive book on Orrefors, Lindstrand developed a line of thick-walled crystal glass at the company and decorated them with a series of quintessentially Art Deco engraved figures.
