Pair Louis XVI Style Chinese-Export Ormolu Mounted Famille Rose Porcelain Vases

$8,450per set

About

A fine pair of Louis XVI style chinoiserie gilt-bronze mounted Chinese export famille rose porcelain vases. The ovoid hand painted porcelain body with dual scenes of a sword presentation to the Royal Court, with stylized gilt dragon porcelain mounts and swan handles, topped with a scalloped rim decorated with flowers, both mounted on a French gilt-bronze (ormolu) plinth, Circa: 1900. Chinese and European porcelains mounted in gilt-bronze were luxury wares that heightened the impact of often-costly and ornamental ceramic pieces sometimes used for display. Chinese ceramics with gilt-bronze mounts were produced under the guidance of the Parisian marchands-merciers, for only they had access to the ceramics (often purchased in the Netherlands) and the ability to overlap the guild restrictions. Measures: Height: 15 inches (38.1 cm) Width: 7 3/4 inches (19.7 cm) Depth: 7 3/4 inches (19.7 cm).
