A pair of 18th century Italian gold leaf church altar vases decorated with fossil shells, siliquaria, and natural forming baroque pearls. The vases originally came from a church in Arezzo, Italy. They are hand-carved and hand-painted by nuns in a local convent. Baroque pearls were famously used as far back as 500 BC Roman Empire for decorative purposes. The pair Italian church candlesticks, fossil shells, siliquaria, and baroque pearls are put together in a historical yet modern sculptural form. Interpreting the past to create a piece entirely original, evolving in its own right.
