About the Item
A fine pair of antique porcelain vases, dating from the early 19th century in the Empire period, set on a square base and spreading socle, the front of the body of the vase is painted with a idealised scene. The idyllic pastoral scene shows a noble woman with a sheep and donkey drinking water beside a lake, the other vase depicts a noble man and a bull resting beside the water side The reverse side of the vase is decorated with a woman resting beside a tree and a bull, the other vase a man resting beside a tree. The painting and decorations are set on a rich green and gilt ground. Each of the vases is mounted with twin scrolling handles.
