About the Item

Important pair of curved shape Louis XV style covered vases attributed to Maison Lexcellent, with godrons, in Aswan granite, gilded and chiseled bronze. The lid is topped by a pomegranate with foliage, the body flanked with large winding handles from which emerge bulrushes and that are attached to the neckline lined with leaves and palmettes, the piedouche maintained by four acanthus clasps, and the whole resting on a square base adorned with acanthus leaves. Pair of similar vases on the stand of the Maison Lexcellent, Universal Exhibition of 1900, in La décoration et l’ameublement à l’Exposition de 1900, Armand Guerinet. Guillaume-Edmond Lexcellent was born in Paris on December 2, 1834. In 1867, he opened a factory and a furniture store located at 46 rue de Charenton in Paris, then at 8 rue Bréguet where he practiced until 1928. He participated in several World Expositions by exhibiting furniture of different styles: In 1855 he received an honorable mention, in 1867 he received a bronze medal and in 1889 he received a silver medal. From 1894, Lexcellent began making copies of antique furniture. Measures: Height 67 cm (26.3 in.), width 41 cm (16.1 in.), base 23.5 x 23.5 cm (9.2 x 9.2 in.)
