About the Item
Pair of French Samson Iznik-Style Pottery, 19th Century
This is a pair of long-necked, bulbous-bodied ceramic vases, reminiscent of a pear. The decoration is a dense, stylized floral design, typically Iznik (Ottoman), using a color palette marked by turquoise, cobalt blue, emerald green, and terracotta red, all on a cream-glazed ground. The vases display fine, widespread craquelure on the glaze surface, a notable feature of their finish. These pairs are generally attributed to the 19th-century French Samson manufacture, a period when this house was known for creating high-quality reproductions of historical styles. One of them bears the hand-stamped number "3" on the base.
