Pair of Longchamp Majolica Ceramic Vases, 1900s

$1,600per set

About

A vibrant pair of ceramic vases with colorful flowers from Longchamp Barbotine, circa 1900. Two tall vases with simple rims, high and sloping shoulders, and body that tapers towards the base. The single low vase has the same general shape, but compressed down and spread wide. The brightly colored paintings of flowers carry notes of chinoiserie and Arts Nouveau. On the front and back of each there are variegated red multi-petaled flowers, and small purple flowers set against a calming blue background. The same blue was also used to glaze inside the vases. All the sides have a band of deeper blue with stylized cherry blossoms on top. Each vignette is framed by warm brown bands, as is the rim.
