A pair of Mid-century modern brutalist art vases from Arnold Wiig fabriker

About the Item

A pair of fantastic vintage Norwegian brutalist art ceramic vases. These are so typical pieces from the talented Otto Mulders for Arnold Wiig factory, Halden, Norway, the design of the vases are very simple shapes, with symmetric patterns, but it is the color and the coarseness of the matt glaze which makes them very special. The color is a warm mahogany on the outside and the inside has a pale green color. The price is for both vases and includes free shipping. The taller one is 21.5cm (8.46") high and around 7cm (2.75") in diameter, the shorter one is 15.5cm (6.10") high and 9cm (7.48") in diameter at the base, they are both in a very good condition. Arol Ceramic Factory, Norway. Arne Georg Olsen registered the company in November 1943 together with Erik Jacobsen in the drafty basement in Peder Colbjørnsen's street in Halden. They were two creative men who joined forces and established what would grow to become the well established Arol ceramics factory. They had already worked together for a year to start a production that could be profitable. The working conditions were miserable, but they had the essentials: clay, a turntable and a pottery kiln. Olsen later described this period as a trial operation with a lot of wastage and faulty productions, but eventually both the customers and the income came. By now they had developed a style and a very sought after design, thier goods are always holding a very high quality, glazing is very special and thus it is now very sought after for vintage and retro lovers world wide.
