"Pan and Nymphs", Unique and Striking Art Deco Vase with Nudes, Iridescent Glaze
About the Item
Striking and sensuous, this 1920s French vase depicts a flute-playing nude Pan figure flanked by three nude female figures with Greek attributes, all set in a lustrous blue surround finished in iridescent glazes. The entire scene seems like a Ballet Russes dance come alive, with exotic figures providing a glimpse of a world rarely seen. The lower edge is decorated in a Greek key motif. The bottom is richly marked and the piece is clearly by an important artist, but the glaze makes those marks difficult to read.
