Swedish vase in vibrant blue submerged glass signed Kosta from the 1970s.

Vicke Lindstrand for Kosta, signed. Amphora shape vase in bronze colored glass surrounded by a tube shape transparent parison. Work signed “Kosta Unik” and dated 1970. Unique piece. Some use marks on the base. Vicke Lindstrand (1904-1983) was a Swedish designer specialized in glass, textiles and ceramic. He began commercial studies and then turned to glass art. In 1928, he was employed by the Orrefors company where he began his experiences of enameled and engraved glass by revolutionning some techniques. He invented with Gustav Bergkvist and Edvin Öhrström the “Ariel” technique that consisted to inlay bubbles in colored glass to decorate. He left Orrefors in 1943 and until 1950 worked as an artistic director for Uppsala Ekeby where he realized different stoneware items as pots or figural sculptures. After this period, he became the artistic director of Kosta and continued to create the same pieces as in Orrefors company but added more colors.
