Porcelain Enameled Vase by Yves Mohy for Virebent, 1970s

About the Item

Porcelain Enameled Vase by Yves Mohy for Virebent, 1970s This vase is the model named “Lentille,” featured here in a beautiful duo of glazes in gray-blue and red-brown tones. This color contrast is also enhanced by a surface contrast : a crackled effect glaze on the gray-blue part, and a smooth finish glaze on the red part. The Virebent Manufacture, located in Puy-l’Évêque in the Lot region of France, was founded in 1924 by Henry Virebent. In 1967, he decided to imagine and create a line of artistic products and decorative porcelain pieces. To achieve this, he called upon designers and ceramists to join him in this venture. The first were Pierre Lèbe, Yves Mohy, and René Bertoux. Today, all of them are featured in the permanent collections of the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. From these collaborations, objects with pure and very contemporary lines emerged, which were presented at the Salon des Ateliers d’Art. All these modern shapes adapted perfectly to white porcelain. The success was immediate, and the Manufacture gained recognition in France and internationally with its new collections. Gradually, colorful collections with subtle and vibrant glazes appeared. Yves Mohy greatly contributed to the production of vases, including the famous “Raie” and “Lentille” models.
