About the Item
This elegant pair of cobalt blue amphora-shaped vases was produced by the distinguished Jaget & Pinon manufactory in Tours, France, and dates to the Art Deco period, circa 1920–1930. With their elongated baluster forms, flared necks, and circular bases, the vases embody the refined balance of proportion and decoration typical of this celebrated workshop.
The rich cobalt ground provides a dramatic contrast to the opulent gilding. Each vase features a central gilt motif of a bird in flight framed by laurel branches and a ribbon-tied wreath, symbolizing harmony and triumph. Additional ornamental details of stylized foliage enrich the neck and base, highlighted with wide gilt bands. The artistry of the gilding and the intensity of the glaze reflect the remarkable quality of Jaget & Pinon’s production.
The undersides bear the manufactory’s stamp and numbering, confirming their authenticity. Notably, there is a very slight difference in height between the two vases, a characteristic often found in hand-crafted works of this scale, further underscoring their artisanal nature.
Founded in Tours in the early 20th century, Jaget & Pinon flourished under the artistic direction of Maurice Pinon Heuzé, whose designs successfully merged classical motifs with the bold elegance of Art Deco. His contributions placed the manufactory among the most respected French ceramic houses of the interwar years.
Rare and impressive, this pair of vases represents a fine example of French Art Deco decorative arts and will appeal to discerning collectors seeking signed and authentic early 20th-century works.
