About the Item

A large and magnificent Scandinavian modern brown salt-glazed stoneware vase by Arthur Andersson with horizontal patterns of zig zags and striations relief decor. Inside glazed. Inside glazed. The vase is inscribed with "AWA, Wallåkra." Working during the 1940s to 1960s, Swedish ceramist Arthur Andersson created voluminous vases known for their formal symmetry and banded designs. Arthur Andersson designed and executed several pieces for Wallåkra. The incised patterns on the exterior of the ceramic vases are distinctive trademarks of Andersson's creations for Wallåkra (founded in 1864). ABOUT WALLÅKRA GOODS Wallåkra stoneware goods are celebrated for their rustic, earthy appeal, blending mid-20th-century Scandinavian design with an ancient Etruscan aesthetic. The pieces are characterized by their simple, organic shapes and salt-glazed finish that enhances the clay’s natural tones. The color palette typically includes warm browns, ochres, and deep terracottas, with occasional touches of gray and black. Subtle variations in color and texture lend each piece a unique, handcrafted quality. With a minimalist approach, clean lines, and functional forms, Wallåkra stoneware feels both traditional and contemporary, making it an ideal choice for refined yet understated table settings or home decor.
