History:
Scheurich Keramikfabrik boasts a rich and remarkable history. Founder Alois Scheurich, along with his cousin Fridolin Greulich, established the company in 1928, initially operating as a wholesaler of glass, porcelain, and ceramics. In 1948, they began producing ceramics under the name "Scheurich & Greulich." In 1954, Alois Scheurich continued ceramic production independently, founding Scheurich Keramikfabrik KG. The company evolved into a market leader in indoor pots and accessories for flowers and plants across Europe.
Design Strategy:
Designer Heinz Siery joined Scheurich in 1955, playing a pivotal role in the company's success. Siery not only introduced aesthetic design but also innovative production methods. The strategy involved creating relatively simple forms that could be adorned with various glazes, resulting in a diverse range tailored to customer preferences. This strategy proved highly successful, making Scheurich the foremost producer of ceramics throughout the 60s, 70s, and 80s. The golden rectangle proportion was often employed in design, lending the ceramics beautiful and harmonious proportions.
