About the Item

This is a rare set of 2 vases by Danish artist Vilhelm Bjerke Petersen for Rörstrand, Sweden. The vases belong to the "Fasett" series and were designed by Bjerke Petersen in 1951-1952. The vases feature an interesting sculptural design looking different from all angles so they cannot be captured in one glance. They are decorated with shiny glaze in purple and black. The vases are fully marked on bottom with the Rörstrand Sweden backstamp and model number 7 and 8. The vases are factory first editions and in excellent vintage condition. Tallest vase Height: 26 cm (10.24") Smallest vase Height: 18,5 cm (7.28") Width x depth: ~10,5 cm (4.13") Vilhelm Bjerke Petersen (1909-1957) was an influential Danish surrealist painter and graphic artist working both abstract and figurative. He´s also known for his theoretic work and as a teacher. Because he found the Royal Danish Academy in Copenhagen too old-fashioned he got his artistic education at the National Art Academy in Oslo, Norway, in 1927 to 1929. Afterwards he went to the progressive Bauhaus School in Dessau in Germany from 1930 to 1931 where he received classes from Wassily Kandinsky and Paul Klee. Bjerke Petersen is the only Dane who ever got classes at the Bauhaus school. He had great influence on the work of the two famous Danish artists Asger Jorn and Richard Mortensen. During World War II he escaped to Sweden. He worked for Rörstrand 1951-54.

Pair of Aubergine Purple Rostrato Murano Glass Vases by Toso, Italy, Signed
By Stefano Toso
Located in New York, NY
Handblown pair of clear and Amethyst or purple Murano glass vases in the iconic manner of the "Rostrato" glass of the 1940s. Each glass vase was meticulously handblown using the same craftsmanship as the original 1940s version in one of the oldest and last remaining glass furnaces on the island of Murano in clear and deep purple or plum pigment-infused glass with delicately and purposefully pulled glass that form small peaks around each vase. This "Rostrato" method is done as the glass is cooling off. The result is a jewel like form that refracts light in every direction. This pair of vase was hand-made and signed by Stefano Toso (Stefano Toso was born in Venice in 1958 into a centuries old family...
