About the Item

Georges Pelletier, born in 1938 in Schaerbeek (Brussels) and died on February 12, 2024, in Cannes, was a French ceramic artist. In 1953, at the age of 15, he arrived in Paris. He entered the Académie Charpentier in 1954 to prepare for the competitive entrance exam for the École des Métiers d'Art. He remained there until 1956, where he discovered drawing. At the age of sixteen, in 1956, he entered the École des Métiers d'Art. At the same time, he began his training in ceramic sculpture by attending Claude Pantzer's studio, where architect and designer Charlotte Perriand came to select ceramics for various projects. Occasionally, he visited the studio of artist Fernand Léger, where he presented his work to the studio manager and learned drawing. During this period of apprenticeship, he joined the Poteries d'Accolay during the school holidays. Georges Pelletier set up his studio in Paris in 1961. To gain recognition, he exhibited his pieces at the Saint-Ouen flea market. In November 1961, a decorator from Bobois noticed his work at the flea market and suggested he include his lamps in the Bobois catalog. This collaboration lasted until 1973.
