Special MOORCROFT Moon Shadows by Kerry Goodwin LARGE TRIAL trumpet

About the Item

MOORCROFT Art Pottery Moon Shadows pattern by Kerry Goodwin LARGE TRIAL trumpet vase. Dated 15/1/16. A Modern Moorcroft Moon shadow trumpet vase, design by Kerry Goodwin. Trial. Dated 15.1.16. Signed and dated. Limited Edition: 75 Shape: 365/15 Height: 15 inches/ 38cm Moorcroft site about this vase said: HYPNOTIZED BY MOON SHADOWS When the moon beams out in full brilliance, it dazzles you. It is said that the day after the full moon, when it turns a haunting shade of yellow, onlookers become mesmerised. Some even enter a trance-like state, and can barely walk at all, with mouth open, and eyes half-closed – simply hypnotized. Moon Shadows enters into this sublime territory which excites the mind and enraptures the spirit. About the Edition Metamorphoses, a Latin poem by Ovid, and considered his best work, or magnum opus, sees a female nymph transformed into a laurel tree. Similarly, Moonlight Ladies sees the great nymphs of the Moorcroft designer’s past (Wood Nymph {2009}, Oak Nymph {2010} and Water Nymph {2012}) rise up into something much taller in stature than before and yet still rooted in creativity. Lissom Moorcroft nudes now mesmerizingly captured under moonlight, echo the very essence of Art Nouveau design. One nymph allows her long, black locks to disappear with the exposed roots of an ancient tree into a ground coloured by violet harebells, and carpeted in moss and lichen. Another sylph-like nymph twists onto her side as she hears the wind softly calling her name, before moving like a luminous wax figurine into the trees above. Finally, there is an image of total surrender. The last nymph kneels under a full autumn moon, naked and still. The vase captures the metamorphosis midway, with a golden haze from a setting sun still penetrating into the glen. In contrast, the strange, cool tones of the moon mimic the nymph’s deathly pale skin. In time, the moonlight ladies will be gone. For now, these nymphs enchant and beckon us all into a surreal clearing. Without doubt, this is the Moorcroft designer’s magnum opus. It is more than just a design celebrating the female form within an eerie rapture - this is a designer who does not conform to the patterns of this world but is herself transformed by the renewing of her own creative and marvellous mind.
