Søren Kongstrand (1872-1951), Danish ceramicist.
Unique vase with matte and shiny lustre glaze.
Hand-glazed.
Circa 1920.
Perfect condition.
Dimensions: H 17.0 cm x D 12.0 cm.
As a ceramicist, Søren Kongstrand was self-taught. In 1907, he began experimenting in earnest with ceramic experiments, which, as a wealthy businessman, he was able to pay for himself. In 1911, he made his debut at the Artists Autumn Exhibition.
He was a wizard who worked with a material that he sometimes found difficult to tame, which may have resulted in works that radiate a very special strength. One of his goals was to make the glaze resemble the strength of nature, including hoarfrost, seagull eggs and the like. Kongstrand became particularly famous for his lustre glazes.
