Stoneware Vase by Gerd Bogelund for Royal Copenhagen, Denmark, 1950s

About the Item

A beautiful stoneware vase with amazing sung glaze. Made by Gerd Bogelund for Royal Copenhagen, Denmark. Excellent condition. Painted monogram signature "gb" and three waves for Royal Copenhagen. Gerd Bogelund (1923-1987) was an acclaimed Danish ceramicist. Her professional career spanned the best known ceramic studios of her time, which included Saxbo, Soholm and Royal Copenhagen. She was deeply inspired by nature which influenced both the form and incised decoration patterns. She exhibited in Museum of Stockholm, Faenza Museum, Dusseldorf Museum, Dr. Hans Thiemanns Museum (Hamburg) and the collection of King Gustav VI of Sweden. Gerd worked at Royal Copenhagen while still studying until 1942, then briefly worked at Saxbo before returning to Royal Copenhagen in 1946 as an Artist in Residence for many years. She is perhaps best known for her intricately patterned stoneware pieces at Royal Copenhagen but did also design some equally impressive porcelain pieces often with blue or celadon glazes. She was awarded an artist's medal at the Milan Triennale 1957 alongside other famed modernist artists/designers such as Sori Yanagi and Kaj Franck.
