About the Item
An extraordinary, bold and very rare vintage art ceramic vase from Tilgmans, Sweden. This vase is out of the ordinary the shape is voluptuous and globe like still simple, this in combination of a fantastic glazing makes this object really to stand out. The glazing is a sign of true craftmanship, the base has a bright fiery orange layer, which fades into a deep red, covered with honey colored and brown parts at the top with orange parts in a harpsichord glaze. The design is simple, the glazing is very special, yet still will this vase add to any interior decoration, due to the elegant and sophisticated look. This vase is also a so called "Flower frog" with multiple holes on the side, which allows for fantastic flower arrangements. This will be a centerpiece in any interior setting.

-It is 13cm (5.11") high and 13cm (5.11") in diameter and in a very good condition.
Tilgmans Keramik (Ceramic) one of Scandinavia’s most valuable contributors to innovative mid-century modern pottery design.
The history of the company is old but by the late 1960s they had established a very unique type of art and design pottery. The design was coarser and darker in appearance always with a modern twist. The production had also a new focus; they were creating more modern interior design objects, varying from art objects to a wide range of vases, lamps, and other ceramic art objects. This became their trademark a very distinct and is not always following the Swedish or Scandinavian design principles, rather one can say that each piece holds a unique quality both in form, function and glazing effects. Rendering that their goods have a modern contemporary feeling, appreciated still, for anyone who loves unique retro and vintage ceramic objects.
Tilgman's had their ceramics and pottery workshop outside Gothenburg, Sweden operating around 1948–1975 under the leadership of its founder Paul Harald Tilgmann (1904–1974). Tilgman's ceramics are mainly known for ceramics that are decorated with so-called sgraffito technology. Tilgmann, like other members of the Tilgmann family in Helsinki, had artistic and design talents. He moved from Helsinki to Gothenburg in 1945. His artistic ambitions led him to become a ceramicist and started Tilgman's ceramics in Utbynäs outside Gothenburg in 1948. In the first years, the ceramics workshop mainly produced animal figures. In 1953, Marian Zawadzki (1912-1978) was employed, a Polish refugee who had knowledge of the graffiti technique. With this technology, the products that Tilgmans created had a unique form and design to their art pottery.
