Swedish Modern Stoneware Pungo Vase and Veckla Bowl by Stig Lindberg Gustavsberg

About the Item

Set of "Veckla" bowl and "Pungo" vase by Stig Lindberg for Gustavsberg, 1950s. The fluted bowl is model 240 from the ”Veckla” series, designed in 1950. The series consisted of 12 bowls and vases with free-formed shapes and sculptural expressions. Veckla was made from stoneware with matte white Carrara glaze and manufactured between 1950 and 1960. The bowl measures: (depth / width / height) 12 x 20.5 x 8 cm The vase measures: (height / diameter): 19 x 11 Stig Lindberg (1913–1997) studied painting at the University College of Arts, Crafts and Design and later became one of Sweden's most important postwar designers. He created whimsical studio ceramics and graceful lines of tableware. In 1937, he went to work at Gustavsberg under Wilhelm Kåge and in 1949 Lindberg was named Kåge's successor as artistic director. From this period until he left Gustavsberg in 1980, he designed individual ceramic items, as well as factory produced ranges and lines of dinnerware. He achieved fame for his eccentric forms and whimsical decoration.
