Swedish Modern Earthenware Floor Vase with Handle by John Andersson Höganäs

About the Item

Tall sculptural floor vase with textured surface designed by John Andersson for Andersson & Johansson Höganäs in the 1950s. Handmade at Höganäs in Sweden. Made from earthenware with matte textured white glaze. Very good condition with few signs of wear and patina. Stamped AJ Höganäs underneath, the stamp used from 1920-1958. The vase has a strong modernist shape with richly textured surface, giving it a tactile and dynamic appearance. Looks great in a mid century or minimalistic interior. John Andersson (1900-1969) was a Swedish ceramist. He began working as a turner at Andersson & Johansson in 1913 and became the artistic director in 1924. In the 1920s he made art pottery with a distinct personal style and from the 1940s and 50s he mainly worked on unique stoneware pieces. 1950s became a bit more varied in their style. Andersson is represented in the collections of the Nationalmuseum in Stockholm and Helsingborg's museum.
