About the Item

Ten vintage Holmegaard smoke gray, hand blown, cylinder vases designed by Per Lütken. Per Lütken (1916–1998) was a Danish glassware designer who studied painting and technical drawing at the School Of Arts And Crafts in Copenhagen. In 1946 Lütken succeeded Jacob Bang as art director and chief designer at the Holmegaard and Kastrup glassworks. Initially Lütken perpetuated the classical modern asthetic of his predecessor. In the 1954 Lütken attended the (X) Milan Triennale exhibition during a study tour of Italy. The exhibition provided great inspiration, he pioneered a new aesthetic direction for both companies by introducing soft colors and free flowing forms in his work. The resulting designs epitomized the fluid and gentle organic forms that soon dominated Scandinavian Modern during the post WWII years. The approximate vase sizes and markings are as follows: 14 5/8"h x 2 5/8"d Etched: Holmegaard / PL / 160208 14 5/8"h x 2 5/8"d Etched: Holmegaard / 19PL59 12 1/8"h x 2 1/2d Etched: Holmegaard / 19PL60 12 1/8"h x 2 1/2d Etched: Holmegaard / 19PL60 12 1/8"h x 2 1/2d Etched: Holmegaard / 19PL59 9 1/4"h x 2 1/4d Etched: Holmegaard / 19PL59 6 3/4"h x 2"d Etched: Holmegaard / 19PL62 6 3/4"h x 2"d Etched: Holmegaard / 19PL59 5"h x 1 3/4"d Etched: Holmegaard / 19PL62 5"h x 1 5/8"d Etched: Holmegaard / PL / 16912 Production dates range from 1959 to 1962.
