About the Item

Thorvald Bindesbøll 1846-1908. Large ceramic vase with ivory colored glaze, dark glazed rim and dark floral, sweeping, organic patterns on the body. Typically decorations characterizing Bindesbøll's work. A very beautiful vase in original perfect condition, with insignificant small firing crack. Not signed, 1890s. Bindesbøll is regarded today as an icon of late 19th century design – the period in which Denmark’s famous Skagen Painters were at their peak. Bindesbøll originally trained as an architect, and worked with ceramic design, graphic patterns and designs, silverware, jewellery and interiors. He combined classical, stringent objects with floral, sweeping, organic patterns and motifs.
