About the Item

An authentic wood container used by the Tutsi people, a group of people residing near the African Great Lakes. Carved from a single piece of wood, this beautiful piece would have been designed to carry milk, water, honey or even food. On the sides of the object you can see metal highlights - which, although some symbolic, were used as a method to repair cracking in the wood. This is a rarified example of such vessels created to transport vital supplies while also symbolizing the incredible ability and craft of these peoples. A work of art in every right. This piece is fully functional and can hold water inside.
