Beautiful and rare stoneware vase designed by Gertrud Lönegren. This studio piece was created at Rorstrand in Sweden between 1936-41. Excellent condition. Impressed 'Rörstrand / Lönegren / SWEDEN / 276 L / HANDDREJAD'. Gertrud Lönegren was a Swedish ceramist born in 1905 who is considered one of the most important figures in Scandinavian ceramics of the 20th century. Lönegren's work is characterized by its elegance. She was a prolific artist and worked for several major Swedish ceramic companies, including Rörstrand and St. Eriks Lervarufabrik in Uppsala. Her works have been exhibited internationally and can be found in the collections of major museums around the world.

Stoneware vase in a clean form by Gunnar Nylund, the undulating rim softens the form. Vivacious blue glaze with purple streaks. Gunnar Nylund was one of the most influential ceramicists and designers of the Swedish mid-century period. He was Rörstrand’s creative leader from 1931 until 1949 and as such propelled the artistic work at the factory and served as mentor to younger artists, among them Carl-Harry Stålhane and Hertha Bengtsson. Nylund was a dedicated functionalist, who brought ideas of democratizing stoneware and creating beautiful, qualitative and affordable everyday items for the people to Rörstand in the mid-1920s.
