Vaso potiche in. ceramica di Delft dipinto a mano, realizzato nella prima parte del XX Secolo Ø cm 21 h cm 52 La ceramica di Delft, conosciuta anche come "Delftware" o "Delft Blue", è un tipo di maiolica olandese che ha raggiunto la sua massima popolarità tra il XVII e il XVIII secolo. La ceramica di Delft trae ispirazione dalla porcellana cinese blu e bianca, che era molto apprezzata in Europa nel XVII secolo. I ceramisti di Delft cercarono di imitare l'aspetto della porcellana cinese utilizzando la maiolica, una ceramica rivestita di smalto stannifero. Tale tecnica fu introdotta nei Paesi Bassi dall'Italia nel XVI secolo. La ceramica di Delft è tipicamente caratterizzata dal colore blu cobalto su sfondo bianco, anche se venivano utilizzati anche altri colori. Le decorazioni includono motivi floreali, paesaggi, scene bibliche e figure orientali. La produzione coinvolgeva diverse fasi, tra cui la modellatura dell'argilla, la cottura, la smaltatura e la decorazione. La smaltatura con ossido di stagno conferisce alla ceramica il suo caratteristico colore bianco opaco.
