Sklo Union where tradition meet innovative design and resulted in exceptional mid-century modern art and design glass. Sklo Union is famous for their mid-century modern Czech glass, today often used in various interior design settings. Which is not surprising, since the design glass from the 60s and 70s always has a uniqueness; modern and contemporary design meeting traditional Bohemian artistry. The glass designers There are several famous designers and artists to mention such as Frantisek Peceny, Rudolf Junikl and Pavel Pánek who are some of the most prominent designers of Bohemian glassware as well as modern art glass, often focusing on various shapes of glass vases. Sklo unions products are often used in interior design projects since they are bold and with a certain retro and vintage edge. Sklo union dominated art glass production in eastern parts of Europe during the 1960s and 70s. The history of Sklo Union Rudolfova Hut was founded in 1906 by Josef Inwald, who already owned several glass factories. Rudolf Schrotter created several designs which began production in 1914. Other designers that worked for Rudolfova Hut include Frantisek Vizner, Rudolf Jurnikl, Adolf Matura, Vladislav Urban, and Vaclav Hanus. Rudolfova Hut soon became the largest producer of pressed glass in Czechoslovakia. In 1965, Rudolfova Hut eventually became part of the Sklo Union group, where you found several other glass factories such as Hermanova Hut, Rosice and Libochovice to name a few. A common feature was the development of art and designed pressed glass, creating affordable glass for any type of interior decoration. Overall renaissance of glass making was caused partly by prevailing communist regime. It took art as a tool to spread ideology. Functional objects were to be produced with a high standard of design. Pressed glass remained so to speak untouched, and the artists were free to create. Understandably the regime did not overlook the popularity of Czechoslovak glass and started to export abroad in bulk. In 1965 a concern company SKLO UNION was established uniting all Czech and Moravian glassworks producing pressed glass.
