Yellow Ceramic Vase by Poemu, France 2023

About the Item

Yellow glazed ceramic vase in the abstract shape of a female torso. The surface is speckled with black dots. The vase is signed POEMU on the bottom. Poemu is a multidisciplinary French artist known for his dynamic creativity that spans lyricism, singing, illustration, visual arts, and sculpture. During the first lockdown in France, Poemu rekindled his passion for ceramics, creating a comprehensive catalog of deformed and deformable shapes suitable for ceramics, glass, crystal, and other moldable materials. A notable highlight of Poemu's career is his "Figurative Handles" collection, for which he designed over 3,000 models. He transitioned from conceptual drawings to practical creation by studying under Christophe De Mons at a potters' workshop in Aix en Provence. Here, he learned essential ceramic techniques and began producing his first pieces, deeply influenced by mid-20th-century glazing methods. Poemu's work emphasizes both the shape and finish of ceramics, often experimenting with crackle glazes, satin blacks, and other innovative finishes. He is self-taught, focusing on energy-efficient methods such as single firing and high-temperature rendering using various enamels and oxides. His creations have been showcased in numerous prestigious exhibitions and galleries worldwide. His first "Superbottle" was presented at the NY 2022 Salon, followed by a showcase at the potters' workshop in December 2022. His second major exhibition, "Artificialization of Land in the Rising Sun," took place in November 2023 in Cucuron, Provence. Poemu's works are also part of private collections and have been featured in renowned galleries such as Galerie Le Boucl'art Uzes, Galerie Glustin Paris, and Galerie Anticedote Paris, among others. His creations have appeared in Elle Decoration and have been exhibited in various international venues, including the United States and Germany. Poemu describes his artistic process as ongoing research, where each piece is unique and inherently unfinished. He focuses on the result at a given moment, continuously evolving and experimenting with his craft.
