About the Item

Introducing an instantly recognizable wine rack designed by the influential Arthur Umanoff. Constructed from a solid wrought iron base this architecturally stunning piece boasts a solid butcher block top convenient for quick food or garnish prep or for slicing citrus for cocktails. The leather bottle-supporting "hoops" have been restored featuring all new leather, hand-tooled in a way that gives homage to the original design and scheme. Arthur Umanoff (1913–1985) was an American industrial designer renowned for his contributions to Mid-Century Modern furniture, particularly in wrought iron and bentwood. Born in New York, Umanoff studied at the Pratt Institute before establishing his own design practice in the 1940s. He gained prominence for creating functional, sculptural pieces that combined metal frames with organic materials, often collaborating with manufacturers like Raymor to produce affordable yet stylish furniture. His designs, characterized by their playful yet practical forms, became iconic in Mid-Century interiors, with wrought iron chairs and bar stools remaining highly sought after by collectors for their enduring appeal and innovative craftsmanship. With it's recent restoration process featuring all new leather work this character rich wine rack is ideal for designers and collectors alike searching for an authentic Umanoff piece that can stand the test of time. Able to store up to 21 bottles this wine wrack is also ideal for those who are limited on space but unwilling to compromise on style and functionality. Make it yours today before it's gone forever. ---Dimensions--- Width: 19 in / 48.26 cm Depth: 11 in / 27.94 cm Height: 31.5 in / 80.01 cm This architecturally fascinating wine rack has recently undergone a partial restoration process featuring newly installed leather slings. The wrought iron frames shows no serious signs of wear with only light nicks and scuffs present. The leather slings that support and cradle each bottle have been replaced with all new hand-tooled, thick-cut genuine Italian leather hides and stained to match the color and tone of the original straps. The solid butcher block top shows some signs of wear such as water stains from use as a kitchen element which can be seen in the detail photos provided. As purists, we strive to leave all of our pieces in as original condition as possible. However we do offer restoration services and a full carpentry shop which can professionally sand and refinish the butcher block included in the sale price. If this option interests you please message us prior to checkout as this service can require up to 12-14 days of lead time. This extraordinary Umanoff piece is highly functional, structurally solid and ready for a lifetime more of use thanks to it's recent restoration process. Please view all photos and natural light video provided for details on this wine rack's current condition. We're limited on the amount of media we can post so additional photos and videos are available upon request.
