About

An exceptional, fine and impressive, antique George V English sterling silver hip flask fitted to its original box; an addition to our wine and drinks related silverware collection. This exceptional, fine and impressive antique George V sterling silver hip flask has a rectangular rounded form. This impressive sterling silver hip flask has a subtly curved form proffering a comfortable fit in the majority of pockets. The hallmarked surface of this silver hip flask is embellished with the impressive original engraved monogram initials 'FL' to the its upper anterior portion. The lower portion of this exceptional antique flask is plain and unembellished. This impressive antique silver flask is fitted with a plain circular domed hinged cover with bayonet fitting. The engraved sterling silver hip flask retains the original fully hallmarked detachable push fit drinking cup. This antique hip flask is fitted to the original rectangular hinged leatherette presentation case with a satin and velvet lined interior, securing with a push fit catch; such examples of drinking related antiques fitted to their original presentation box are rare and difficult to locate. This flask has been tested for watertightness and is ready for use. To ensure the engraved sterling silver hip flask remains water tight, the cork should be moist and therefore fully expanded to provide an effective seal. There are two recommended methods to ensure the cork does not dry out and shrink: Method One: Keep fluid in the flask at all times, and keep the flask on its side to ensure the cork remains wet. Method Two: Fill the flask to the brim with fluid and close. Leave it like this overnight, or 24 hours if possible, before use. Condition This antique engraved sterling silver hip flask is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. Full hallmarks struck to the surface of the body and drinking cup in addition to the part hallmarks to the neck are all very clear; the hallmarks are struck deeply due to the superior gauge of silver. The interior of the original leatherette box features some staining, in keeping with age and use, but can be considered to be in excellent presentation condition. Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this example of antique silverware.
