About the Item

An exceptional, fine and impressive, large antique George V English sterling silver hip flask, an addition to our wine and drinks related silverware collection. This exceptional antique George V sterling silver hip flask has a plain rectangular rounded form. This impressive 1920s flask has a subtly curved form proffering a comfortable fit in the majority of pockets. The surface of this large solid silver hip flask is plain and unembellished. This impressive antique silver flask is fitted with a plain circular domed hallmarked hinged cover with bayonet fitting. The flask retains the original fully hallmarked detachable push fit drinking cup which features the original gilt interior. This solid silver flask has been tested and is water tight and ready for use. To ensure the flask remains water tight, the cork should be moist and therefore fully expanded to provide an effective seal. There are two recommended methods to ensure the cork does not dry out and shrink: Method one: Keep fluid in the flask at all times, and keep the flask on its side to ensure the cork remains wet. Method two: Fill the flask to the brim with fluid and close. Leave it like this overnight, or 24 hours if possible, before use. This exceptional example of antique silverware was crafted by William Henry Stokes & Arthur George Ireland of Stokes & Ireland Ltd. Condition This antique 1920s flask is a superior gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. Full hallmarks struck to the surface of the body and drinking cup in addition to the part hallmarks to the neck have wear in keeping with age and location. Dimensions Length 17.5cm/6.9" Width 10.3cm/4.1" Depth 2.7cm/1.1" Weight 12.4 troy ounces/386g (including cork to cover.) Maker: Stokes & Ireland Ltd Date: 1921 Origin: Chester, England Video: A video of this fine piece is available upon request. Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this piece of antique silverware.
