Art Déco/Modernist Silver Spherical Cocktail Shaker by Swedish Sylvia Stave

About the Item

Art Déco/Modernist silver spherical cocktail shaker with applied handle and spout, stamped marks to the underside, by swedish designer Sylvia Stave By: Sylvia Stave Material: silver, silver plae Technique: metalwork, polished, cast, molded, silvered, plated Dimensions: 6.5 in x 6.5 in Date: 1930-1939 Style: Modernism, Scandinavian Modernism, Art Déco, Bauhaus, Constructivism Place of origin: Sweden Influenced by Constructivism and the Bauhaus, Sylvia Stave acted Director of Design at Hallbergs Guldsmeds AB, a large jewellery firm, throughout the 1930s, and subsequently exhibited examples of her work at the 1937 Paris Exhibition. Currently, many of her works are included in the permanent collection of Stochholm's National Museum. The language of this cocktail shaker is based on basic geometries, and its peculiar composition, similar to the Bauhaus school of design, makes it an iconic 20th century product. Made entirely on silver, Its design not only abandons any historicist and decorative ornamentation, but also eliminates any Art Déco ornamentation typical of the 1920s.
