About the Item

Piero Fornasetti (Italian, 1913-1988) Complete Set of Six Ceramic "Stuzzichini" Barware Appetizer Bowls Circa 1960s Glazed ceramic with transfer-printed decoration and gilt details This charming set of six appetizer bowls is a quintessential example of Piero Fornasetti's whimsical and surrealist approach to everyday objects. Produced in the 1960s, each bowl is dedicated to a classic bar snack, featuring clever trompe-l'œil designs for cheese, olives, onion, cocktail sausages, and nuts (almonds and peanuts). Adding a touch of opulence, each bowl is finished with a refined gilt band on the interior rim and another around the exterior of the foot, beautifully framing the central motif. Marks: Each bowl is marked to the underside with the black "Fornasetti-Milano / Made in Italy" stamp within a star, featuring the iconic hand-and-brush logo. A gilt workman's mark is also present. Dimensions: Height: 2 inches (5.08 cm) Diameter: 3 inches (7.62 cm) Reference: Fornasetti, Barnaba. Fornasetti: The Complete Universe. Rizzoli, 2010, p. 560, plate 13. The bowls are identified in the reference as "appetizer bowls" ("Stuzzichini"). They were originally sold in sets of six, chosen from a wider series of twenty-six different designs.
