Complete set of Vintage Piero Fornasetti Love Coasters in Original Box

About the Item

Here is a very nice set of vintage LOVE coasters by the great Piero Fornasetti from the 1950s. There are eight coasters, each with a different phrase on the subject of love. The coasters are in very good condition--the gold is bright with no thin spots which are often seen on Fornasetti coasters. In fact. we are not sure if this set has ever been used. There may be some slight wear and light scratches, but nothing obvious. The underside of the coasters are numbered--there are some dark spots as seen in photos which we have not tried to remove. These are probably from the coasters being stacked within the box. The foil box is in fair condition, but it's rare to find a complete coaster set in its original box,. The dimensions listed are for the box. Each coaster is approximately 4.13" in diameter. The phrases on the coasters are: 1. Love is not without fear. 2. Who loves me well loves my dog also. 3. Seek your salve where you got your sore. 4. Love is shown by many a bitter sign. 5. The new love oft chaseth out the old. 6. Love and red nose can't be hid. 7. What the heart thinks the mouth speaks. 8. Love is ne'er without jealousy. Reference: Fornasetti: The Complete Universe, Barnaba Fornasetti, page 608, #139 for period photograph of prototypes made by Piero Fornasetti and presented by Cerarniche di Bollate at the VIII Milan Triennale in 1947 with this heart design.

1930s Napier Silver-Plate Cocktail Shaker Designed by Emil Schuelke
By Emil Schuelke
Located in Minneapolis, MN
Here is a hard-to-find modernist silver-plate cocktail shaker designer by Emil Schuelke in the mid-1930s and made by Napier Company of Meriden, Connecticut. The cone-shaped shaker consists of two pieces--the top can be used for measuring ingredients. This example is in good condition--there are no deep scratches or dents. There some silver losses on the body and top of the shaker and the inside strainer has loss as well. You can tell the shaker has been used--there is wear to the interior. We've included several photos which represent the condition well. But all in all, this shaker presents nicely and would make a great addition to any bar or cocktail shaker collection. From Wikipedia: "Napier silver designs from the first half of the 20th century are in museum collections including the Brooklyn Museum, Newark Museum and a substantial collection at the Dallas Museum of Art. Over the years, Napier silver has been featured in museum exhibitions, including Modernism in American Silver: 20th Century Design at the Smithsonian in Washington, the Dallas Museum of Art, the Wolfsonian in Miami Beach, the Nevada Museum of Art in Reno, and the Dixon Gallery and Gardens in Memphis, TN (2005–07). Napier designs have also been included in two shows at the Brooklyn Museum, entitled 19th century Modern (2011–12; 2013–15). In November 2016-November 2017, the iconic Napier penguin cocktail shaker...

Piero Fornasetti Complete Set of Eight Ceramic Coasters, Italian Opera
By Piero Fornasetti
Located in Downingtown, PA
Piero Fornasetti Complete Set of Eight Ceramic Coasters, Il Mondo Alla Rovecia Pattern, (“The topsy-turvy world”), After opera by Antonio Salieri, 1950-60s The set of whimsical pottery barware pottery coasters represent different scenes from an Opera, Il Mondo Alla Rovecia with the roles of each character reversed. There is the bottom section of the gold cardboard box. Dimensions: 4 1/8 inches diameter x 1 1/8 inches high (10.48cm diameter) With Antonio Salieri’s star on the wane, Il mondo alla rovescia (“The topsy-turvy world”) was coolly received by the Viennese in January 1795 and quickly fell into near-oblivion for over two centuries. It is an amusing comedy from an experienced master of opera buffa. The mildly risqué action is set on a mythical island where women, Amazon-like, rule the roost and men are reduced to drooling subservience. The status quo is challenged with the arrival of two shipwrecked aristocrats, a Count and a Marquise, and a European vessel intent on their rescue – although, in keeping with contemporary taste.
