Mid-18th Century Wine Glass Hand Blown Cotton Twist Stem, English C 1765
About the Item
This is a good hand blown, English, mid-Georgian, Cordial drinking glass with a double series opaque twist (DSOT) stem, dating from the middle of the 18th century, circa 1765.
These handblown Georgian wine glasses are very collectable, made from English lead glass which is relatively heavy and has a soft grey colour.
The glass has the usual striations, inclusions and tiny bubbles you would expect to see in 18th century glass, which gives these glasses their unique charm.
The glass has a small round funnel (RF) bowl and is typical of a cordial glass, having a proportionately smaller bowl than wine glasses of the same type. The bowl sits on a tall, thick, double series opaque or cotton twist stem consisting of a pair of 7-ply spiral bands wound outside a central lace twist. The stem leads to a good conical foot having a rough snapped off pontil mark to the underside.
There are no chips, cracks or any evidence of restoration.
Dimensions: Bowl rim diameter: 1.94 inches
