Mid-18th Century Georgian tall Wine Glass hand-blown Cotton Twist opaque Stem

$797.92

About

This is a good tall handblown, English, mid-Georgian, Wine drinking glass with a multi spiral opaque twist (MSOT) or Cotton Twist stem, dating from the middle of the 18th century, circa 1760. These hand-blown wine glasses are very collectable. It is hand made from English lead glass which is relatively heavy and has a soft grey color. The glass has the usual striations, inclusions and tiny air bubbles you would expect to see in 18th century glass, which gives these glasses their unique charm, and makes every glass different. The glass has a tall drawn trumpet bowl and stem, the stem having a delicate multi spiral opaque or cotton twist within it. The stem leads to a good very wide conical foot having a rough snapped off pontil mark to the underside. There are no chips, cracks or any evidence of restoration. Dimensions: Bowl rim diameter: 2.88 inches. Foot diameter: 3.13 inches. Height: 7 inches. The glass has a good ring to it when tapped with a finger. This is a very beautiful and elegant tall wine glass.
