About the Item

This is an old bamboo tray made in Japan around the 20th century. Japan has had a deep connection with bamboo for centuries, using bamboo products widely in daily life as well as in crafts. This relationship spans over a thousand years, and bamboo continues to be loved for its combination of lightness and strength. The rim of this tray is crafted to highlight the natural bamboo nodes, featuring a finely woven meshwork technique called "ajiro" weaving. The dense weave creates a beautifully refined finish. The underside is also carefully woven, providing a gentle and comfortable texture to the touch. As an antique piece that has endured the passage of time, this tray shows slight swelling and changes in the bamboo, but it remains fully functional for holding cups or small items. It exudes a delicate yet calm and elegant atmosphere, adding a subtle touch of wabi-sabi beauty to any Japanese-style interior. Measuring 34 cm wide, 24.5 cm deep, and 2.7 cm high, and weighing approximately 0.25 kg, it is lightweight and easy to handle. It pairs well not only with everyday tea time but also complements modern Japanese and natural-style interiors. It also makes an elegant serving tray for sweets when entertaining guests, serving as a tasteful accent on dining tables or in living rooms. While many wooden trays have been produced, bamboo trays like this are comparatively rare and thus a valuable item. We highly recommend welcoming this piece that embodies the tradition of Japanese craftsmanship into your home. Weight: 0.25 kg Item number: BA016 [We mainly sell old Japanese items.
