About the Item

George III sterling silver tankard. Made by Peter & Ann Bateman in London in 1794. Girdled upward tapering cylinder; raised and spread foot. Cover hinged and double-domed with open-scroll thumb rest. S-scroll handle with hear terminal. A convivial Yeoman vessel that probably seemed a tad old fashioned by the late eighteenth century. Fully marked. Weight: 26.5 troy ounces.
