About the Item

A very rare Black and gold martini pitcher by Culver Glass Company. This design, known as Morocco, features four rows of gold ovals in a grid pattern over a black background. Culver was famous for using 22kt gold in their paint applications, adding to opulence of this design. This piece is also signed, bearing the Culver Ltd stamp inside an oval on the bottom row of the design. Culver offered glassware in the Morroco line until 1962. The discerning buyer could purchase this design in a hiball, a 9oz rocks glass, a 13 oz. double rocks glass, a 7 piece martini set, a snack bucket as well as caddy sets, roly polys and shaker sets. Culver Glassware Company was founded in 1939 by Irving Rothenberg in Brooklyn, New York. The company later relocated to New Jersey. Culver was particularly known for its use of 22kt gold in their designs. The application process was such a closely guarded secret that it remains so even to this day. Though the company closed in the 1980s, Culver Glass remains highly collectable.
