About the Item

Stunning 19th century French butchers block in the original paint finish. The piece is decorated with wonderful cast bull heads and a carved shell motif to the upstand, and a lovely shaped apron and turned legs to the base. The 7.5" thick worktop shows great age and undulations from years of use. This butchers block with made by Trussant & Cie for a restaraunt in the Sainte-Livrade region of Lot-et-Garonne in the south of France. 1860. Height to the worktop is 33". This antique "Billot de Boucher", or butcher block was crafted in southwest France, circa 1890. The large piece stands on four spindled-shaped legs ending with bun feet, and decorated with diamond shaped medallions in each corner. The block features a center drawer dressed with the original metal handle, over a carved scalloped apron on all three sides.
