19th century Louis XV st. Meissen Porcelain and Ormolu table fountain

About the Item

An exquisite and most decorative French and German collaboration 19th century Louis XV st. Meissen Porcelain and Ormolu table fountain. This beautiful "fontaines de table" is raised on a triangular base with concave sides and scrolling foliate designs throughout. Rising from the center of the base is an array of foliate decorated branches, lily pads, and colorful blossoming Porcelain flowers while being flanked on three sides by highly detailed Porcelain statues of joyous maidens. Supported on a circular mottled edge is the gorgeous and finely detailed pear-shaped yellow and rose colored Porcelain urn with two scallop shaped art works of an active coastline. The neck is decorated at its peak by two Ormolu masks of a bearded man with additional blossoming Porcelain flowers. This high quality piece is finished with a foliate designed circular Ormolu lid with a fine foliate spray finial. Table Fountains were designed to dispense water, often used for rinsing fingers between courses during a meal. Perfumed water was used to add a pleasant fragrance to the dining experience.
