About the Item

An elegant Japanese 19th century Imari Porcelain and Ormolu centerpiece. The centerpiece is raised on a beautiful French Louis XVI st. Ormolu base with four block supports and richly chased central rosettes. The concave shape above is decorated with lovely recessed fluted designs below the socle pedestal. The beautiful Imari Porcelain bowl displays exceptional vividly colored flowers with scrolled gold accents throughout, and is finished on the inside with additional lovely hand painted flowers on a white background. Striking Ormolu handles lead up each side to a Greek key design adorned with a finely chased swaging berried laurel garlands, while an elegant pierced Ormolu band extends along the top rim. All original gilt throughout

The striking and large scale centerpiece is raised by four pierced ormolu scrolled feet each decorated with a warm blue and a black enamel fillet below the circular black Belgian marble base. The base is decorated with a highly detailed cloisonné band with foliate patterns. With cabochons at each side that are centered by two charming ormolu cherubs, each sitting with their legs crossed and reading a book.
