Large Hand Built Ceramic Platter in Black Gloss Glaze
About the Item
Large hand built ceramic platter in dark brown stoneware with luscious black glaze. At over 16 inches in diameter this platter will make a statement on your table! Notoriously hard to photograph, the glossy black complements food beautifully. A platter this large is a challenge to make as the clay can easily crack during several phases of the process, including the final glaze firing. Made by carefully hand rolling out a large slab of clay and slowly turning it and drying it. The edges are hand-pinched to create a gently curving rise. Of course it's not perfect, which shows it was hand made and therefore truly one of a kind.
Signed with Artist's signature and signature chop underneath.

Helena Starcevic Ceramics produces work that straddles the line between fine and decorative art. Each piece is one of a kind, hand-built entirely by the artist in her New York studio. Taking inspiration from the natural world, Ms. Starcevic's work includes references to the stark beauty of the desert, prehistoric cave paintings, and the human form (within and without). Everything is filtered through Ms. Starcevic’s own singular aesthetic, at once quiet yet strong, meditative, and beautiful. Pieces are made in different clays and finishes, and at different scales. Groupings are available. Helena Starcevic’s ceramic pieces are held in private collections across the US and Europe. She has held numerous residencies including one at the Museum of Art and Design in New York City.
