Sterling and Crystal Epergne

About the Item

Centerpiece consisting of a central bowl and several small bowls to serve fruit and sweets. This epergne is a mix between "old world" and modern; the cut-glass is fancy while the silver piece is fun and modern. There is one large center bowl and three smaller bowls that are removable for easy cleaning. The three arms are removable as well making this easy to store when not in use. The arms have a ribbing pattern and there are six gum-ball size balls on the base.

Sterling and Crystal Compote
By Steuben Hawkes
Located in Brooklyn, NY
Based in Corning, NY, T.G. Hawkes & Co. (circa 1880-1959) was established by Thomas Gibbons Hawkes (1846-1913). Born in Ireland, Hawkes immigrated to Brooklyn in 1862, then moved to Corning, opening his own cut glass firm in 1880. His firm, T.G. Hawkes & Co., soon became famous for quality wares. Hawkes' glassware was used in the White House from 1885 until 1938. Hawkes pieces can be found in museums world-wide. Over one hundred years old, this lovely crystal compote with a sterling silver base evokes a time gone-by. A time when entertaining was an art onto its self and beautiful items— objet d’art were sought after and collected. It has a feminine silhouette and delicate etching all around on top. A great piece to leave out on your coffin table...
