Superb ceramics figurine group depicting Adam and Eve. Designed by Lotte Calm-Wierink (1897 - died after ther year 1953): One of the most interesting female expressive ceramics designers/modellers having been active on behalf of WIENER WERKSTAETTE as from the year 1917 until circa 1927. - The artist was born in Prague (now capital of Czech Republic, formerly - at end of 19th century - part of Austrian-Hungarian Empire). Lotte Calm studied at Viennese School of Applied Arts as from the year 1914 where she was a pupil of Josef Hoffmann (architecture) as well as of Adele von Stark (enamel works) / Calm specialized in design of figural ceramics as from the year 1916, having started her carreer of ceramics designer on behalf of Wiener Werkstaette then. Calm married in year 1927 and adopted the name of 'Wierink'. She moved to Netherlands before the year 1953 / her date of death is unknown. Hallmarked: stamp of Wiener Werkstatte (Vienna / Austria) of period 1921-1930 and characters 'Made in Austria.' model number 46. surname of artist is engraved at item's backside (edged area): 'Calm.' Vienna, made circa 1925. Material and subject: Red earthenware / painted in light green, blue and turquoise shades / glazed. It is a pair of figurines - both of them have sat down on a flower's branches which are growing out from middle area of tapering base (some flower's blossoms are visible, too). The figurines are well-dressed whereas the female one holds an apple in right raised hand so that the couple must epitomize Adam and eve here.
