About the Item

A very fine and rare German Nurenberg Delft style moon flask hand painted with a figure by Andreas Kordenbusch dated 1726. The lightly and finely potted earthenware flask stands raised on an oval shaped base the rounded body with a ridge running around the side with rope eyes which extends through the base. The flask has a raised round top with a ring rim and has its original domed top cover. The flask is finely hand painted in blue on a white ground with a man butterfly catcher holding a net in one hand and a butterfly on the other set within a landscape to one side and with a sailing boat in a watery landscape to the opposite side with scroll patterning painted around the edge and foot. The vase is dated ANNO 1726 around the lower edge and bears an AK monogram and various numbers painted to the base. Provenance: Acquired in the UK Art Market. In good presentable condition with a stabilised and overpainted hairline running up the edge from the base on side and with a repair to the stopper and a minimal amount of fritting as might be expected from a piece of this age. A rare and stunning example.
