About the Item

Rut Bryk, 17 cm square relief. At first glance, it looks like a city tile, but it is an unusual cross-shaped relief with a depression toward the center. This form is the same form that was frequently used for the tiles that make up her large-scale works. From the City and Ash Tray series, he gradually pursued a minimalistic expression by shading the unevenness of the tiles. The deep and dignified light blue contrasts with the black that looks like charcoal has been rubbed against it, and the arrangement of the stamps is well balanced. There is a long and narrow chip of about 6 mm in one place.There is no other damage, but because of this chip, the condition is set to "good" Rut Bryk (1916-1999) was born to an Austrian father, Felix, and a Finnish mother, Aino, and spent her childhood in Stockholm. Influenced by his father, who was a butterfly researcher and painter, she became familiar with nature and art, and when she was a student, she dreamed of becoming an architect, but she gave up on it due to opposition from those around her. When she turned to graphic design, her delicate and poetic view of the world caught the attention of the Arabian Pottery Factory, and in 1942 she joined the company as an artist in the fine arts department. Since the latter half of the 1950s, one of the highlights is the style that flows from concrete to abstract expression. From the late 1970s, Rut, who originally had a desire to become an architect, began creating large-scale murals for public buildings such as churches and city halls. Combining tens of thousands of tiles by hand, the mosaic murals, which coexist with delicacy and strength, can be said to be the true value of Rut's art, combining advanced technology with a unique sense of form and color. .
